Over the last several weeks, more than 100 people have been killed in the border crisis between Oromia and the Ethiopian Somali region in eastern Ethiopia; and more than 50,000 have been displaced from their homes, according to the latest news reports.
Oromo and Ethiopian Somali human rights activists accuse the Ethiopian Federal Government of instigating and fueling the crisis using proxy regional leaders. Since the outbreak of the recent attacks, the Oromo public at home and in diaspora has mobilized its resources to support the victims. Oromos of all walks of life (young and old) have mobilized their local resources to collect donations (money, clothes, foods, …) for those affected in eastern Ethiopia. According to reliable sources, efforts are also underway to stage musical performances by local and national Oromo artists across Oromia to collect funds for the support and rehabilitation of the victims.
