Below are news reports about the 2017 Irreecha from Fana and CGTN-Africa. The Oromo Thanksgiving (Irreecha) was colorfully, and peacefully, celebrated on October 1, 2017, in Bishoftu, Oromia. Each year, millions of Oromos and other celebrants gather by the lakeside of Hora/Lake Arsadi in Bishoftu to give thanks for Waaqa (The Almighty) for transitioning the Nation from the dark Winter to the bright Spring season. Last year’s Irreecha celebration in Bishoftu is remembered for the hundreds of Oromo lives lost as the security forces of the Ethiopian Federal Government, which is dominated by the Tigrean People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), attempted to crash a peaceful protest through teargases and live ammunition inside the crowded civilian zone.
